Making The Connection
By Racine Hiet

Abbie recalls once being asked by a reporter in South Korea what it was like to have a dog that was different from other ‘meat’ dogs. She explained that Minnow is no different, and that her heart is the same as all other dogs. “I often think about that question in regards to Blossom,” she says. “My response would be that she, too, is no different — her heart is the same as all other beings.” Blossom the turkey and Minnow the dog have something in common — they were both once thought of only as “food.”

Minnow was rescued from a South Korean meat farm in 2015, and Blossom was saved last year from a commercial turkey farm in West Virginia. Today they share a home with Abbie Hubbard, and are like any other family. They go on hikes together, snuggle on the sofa and greet Abbie at the door. “When I put the keys in, I hear Blossom make loud chirping sounds in excitement,” Abbie, who is the Animal Rescue Responder for Humane Society International, tells LAIKA. “She always comes running, and it makes my heart do flips of joy.” For the full Laika Magazine article please click here.

Jews and Arabs March Together for Veganism and Animal Rights

More than 1,000 animal rights activists marched together for veganism in the city of Haifa, Israel, under the title “We Are All Their Voice: Coming Together for the Animals”. Organized by both Arab and Jewish animal rights activists, the march marked a meaningful highlight in a continuous collaboration between the two communities in the north of Israel, where vegan activists have been working together for years. Making The Connection

What Is At The Heart Of Flow Animal Sanctuary In China?

We are an experiential farm and animal sanctuary, with a few very simple heart-felt missions: to provide a fun and safe environment for humans and animals to learn about each other, to nurture respect for our natural environment and to inspire love for all living beings, so we can all live together in harmony.

We do this by providing fully immersive, interactive experiences so you can truly connect with nature and with animals. Through our Flow Programs we hope you will gain invaluable insights, form genuine loving bonds, and leave with a renewed understanding and appreciation for our natural world.

We have over 100 animals – each with a Chinese and English name that reveals their unique and loving characters. If you would like to sponsor one of our animals, please contact us for information on our Sponsorship Programs. To contact us click here.

.Making The Connection

By Animal Activist Amy Soranno

If only every little piglet could grow up happy, safe and free. Just like you, Russel.

Following the Meat The Victims Canada event, I couldn’t handle seeing pigs at sanctuaries for almost a year. After seeing so many suffering pigs on farms, it became too emotional to see what could have been for all of those individuals, if only they were given the chance.

Seeing pigs (or any animal) in a sanctuary setting, where they are healthy and able to engage in behaviours that come naturally to them, is overwhelming. So few pigs on this earth are given the freedoms to play, create bonds, and live healthy lives (never mind breathe fresh air, drink clean water, or even walk).

Millions of pigs have body parts chopped off of them, are intensively confined, suffering from illnesses, and needlessly killed within animal agriculture. Those countless farmed individuals never experience even an ounce of joy or comforts, unlike Russel and the few lucky ones at sanctuaries. The pain of that realization runs deep.

When will we stop making such selfish choices? When will we say enough is enough, and not only refuse to eat, wear, and use animals, but also actively fight to end this violent and destructive industry?

Collectively, we must strive towards a world where all animals (human and non-human) aren’t discriminated against, oppressed, or treated like commodities. We must strive towards total liberation, for everyone.

The Excelsior 4 Legal Defense Fund

UPDATE: September 2021
In April 2022, Nick Schafer, Roy Sasano, Geoff Regier and Amy Soranno will embark on an intense & extremely long process to been found guilty or innocent by a jury trial in BC’s supreme court. This is for exposing criminal animal cruelty at Excelsior hog farm in Abbotsford, Canada.

The length and complexity of this trial means it will be expensive. If you are in a position to help us with our legal fees, we would be incredibly grateful!
We will use this case to…
– Hold Excelsior accountable for their well documented criminal abuse.
– Highlight the problematic issues with authorizing the BCSPCA to enforce animal welfare laws, and call on BC’s Minister of Agriculture to change animal law enforcement from the BCSPCA to a more accountable government agency.
– Push for BC’s animal agriculture industry to implement mandatory CCTV cameras inside all facilities, ensuring every practice is clearly documented and accessible to the public.

Please support the four animal activists’ legal defense fund; gofundme.
